The following is some Q and A with Todd Lynch, Multisite Pastor:
What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
We can build a school of ministry that will help develop future pastors and staff members. With the hope of some of these residents being key leaders to future church plants and locations we hope to add over the next 10 years.
Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
We choose a residency because we believe we can provide these students with a great church experience as they take ministry classes. We are hopeful that this will lead to the kingdom of God growing.
What is it like to work on staff there?
I have had the privilege of working at Fountain Springs Church for 17 years. The staff dynamics have changed over the years but the heart of showing people who Jesus is has not. I believe the culture of staff is not perfect, but it is healthy and we value working hard while also valuing Sustainability.
Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church?

Please describe the current staff structure.
Lead Pastor
Executive Pastor
Directional Team Leaders – lead central staff members
Location Pastors – lead location specific staff members
What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
A win is when we see people experience God and be led by God through the Great Commission Engine. The Great Commission Engine is a 3-piston engine that includes catalytic worship, surrendered living and life-changing relationships. With the middle cog being the one. This represents who is the one that you are trying to help experience Jesus.
Secondarily, we want our team to be engaged in development from both directions. They should be intentional about developing someone around them, as well as be receiving intentional development through regular feedback and mentorship.
Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach?
The resident would report to the staff member who oversees the area they are joining. Yes there will be a coach who is separate from their boss.
Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
We have used 6 Working Geniuses, Enneagram, Myer Briggs and Strength Finder when hiring possible staff members.
Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
Yes we are part of the Wesleyan Denomination: https://www.wesleyan.org/

40 hours/week
What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
Rapid City is a great area with incredible access to outdoor activities in the Black Hills. That being said, it could be a culture shock if a candidate feels more comfortable in a larger metropolitan area. I wouldn't consider it a “small town,” but with only about 120k residents in the Black Hills, it’s a whole lot different that cities of +1M in population.
