Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
I want to use this process to help this resident catch a vision for what church could be and go do ministry on their own.
What is it like to work on staff there?
Ask me in a year or two! Ha. Right now it’s me and a bunch of amazing volunteers.

Please describe the current staff structure.
We are in the middle of hiring some people, but at this point it’s me and these amazing volunteers.
What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
Be ok in a multiethnic setting. Coachable. Teachable.
Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach? What do you know about their personalities (enneagram, DiSC, Strength Finders, etc.) Have you given thought as to what type of personality will work best with them?
Sean Badeer, Lead Pastor. There will probably be other coaches too.
I don’t make hiring decisions on personality tests, but flexible, teachable, go with the flow. We have a plan, but this is a church plant. If you want to sit in staff meetings, have a cool office, and set hours…this may not be the place. I promise you that you’re not going to be drowning, but there’ll be a lot of days where the plan is very flex and it’s going to be “out” and very people oriented.
Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
I like strength finders, some enneagram, Thinking Wavelengths and Working Genius, but mainly I am more interested if the resident is self-aware. I believe any type of personality can learn how to lead as long as they’re self-aware.

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
Jesus is Lord. He’s the King and the only way to the Father.
Every church should be outreach-oriented because this isn’t about us.
What is your average weekend attendance?
We hope to launch with 150 and grow from there.
In general, what is your church demographic?
Aurora is amazing there are dozens of languages and dialects. So far we are about 60% white on our launch team and I hope that this continues. Go read up on Aurora, CO. Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
Single site. Probably in a rented school facility. We do have a vibey little office with gathering space. When I say “vibey” I mean it’s a garage.
How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
One! And we haven’t even started yet.
What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
100% we are running our second round of Rooted Groups. We have five going. Many have zero church experience and a lot of them do not know Jesus (yet!).

What does a typical work week look like for this resident?
MVMNT is a teaching church. Sorta like a teaching hospital…when that doctor is working the resident is right there observing and doing. This is similar. When I’m on the resident is on.
What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
We’re going to have a blast.
This will not be easy. But it’s going to be rewarding and you’ll be stretched. I know this because I’m being stretched already and we haven’t even “launched.”
