“The curse of discipline is that every day looks the same.
The curse of indiscipline is that every year does.”

Venture Capitalist Hemant Mohapatra

We love to talk about vision. We love the start. Instagram loves the launch.

We don't love to talk about the grind. The walk. The reps. The discipline. I used to believe that stuff was for the detailers and the engineers. I'm not saying I regret my 20s and 30s, but some of us take longer than others to learn.

I know a guy who says he has one decision to make each day: get up when the 5 a.m. alarm goes off. If he does that, then he'll make great coffee downstairs; if he does that, then he'll read 4 to 8 chapters of the Bible; if he does that, then he'll get through the Bible again in 300 days. It's boring daily stuff, but something tells me where he is today looks much different than where he was last year.

I've never been a "word of the year" kind of guy, but in 2025 I told the Lp team that the word of the year was "Simpler & Better.*" We started noodling on how to make what we do clearer, easier to understand, and better for those we serve.

In January, I declared the word of 2026 was going to be "Simpler & Better."

I bet the word of the year for 2027 is going to be "Simpler & Better."

Question: What's one repetitive task in developing the leaders around you that you must embrace this week even though it feels boring? The weekly coaching session. The honest feedback loop. Over and over and over. We call that ownership.
