King of Kings

King of Kings Church in Omaha, NE searching for a Ministry Resident to join their team.

Expected Work Hours: 40 Hours Per Week
Expected Monthly Pay: 1000/month + Housing and Benefits

The following is a Q&A with Missy O’Connor, Kids Ministries Director:

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?

Our greatest hope and dream is that we would continue to be growing by quality and quantity at each of our three campuses. In addition, in the next couple of years, we hope to add a fourth campus. Finally, we hope to be more proactive in raising up and developing leaders that can support the multi-campus model.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?

We chose to pursue residency because we believe in investing in young leaders. We also believe that we have a church culture that will be contagious and ideal for a young leader to thrive. Finally, we believe we will be better the more young leaders are a part of our team.

What is it like to work on staff there?

Fun. Exciting. Challenging. Those are probably the top three words I’d use. King of Kings has a history of being pioneers in our Lutheran church body. Because of that, it’s a fun, exciting, and challenging team to be on. We try not to settle for what is but continue to push to where we feel God is leading us.

Please describe the current staff structure.

We are a multi-campus model. So, we have a Central team and Campus teams. Currently we have three campuses. Our central team is meant to equip and support our campuses to do the work. Our Campus teams are meant to execute the work and provide the pastoral care and day-to-day ministry that each campus needs to thrive.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?

  1. Do the work. We value people that can get stuff done. People that say they will do something and do it. Responsible.

  2. Work it out. We work with teams and collaborate together to come up with the best solutions. This often means putting aside our own preferences or ensuring buy-in from key leaders.

  3. Work with love. We desire to be closely connected with one another. As we get stuff done for the Lord, it’s imperative that we not only love our work, but we love one another.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?

As of right now, we have several leaders that we’ve identified that the resident could report to. Each of these leaders has had a Spiritual Gift Test, an Enneagram test, a StrengthsFinders Test and a Working Genius test completed and we are happy to share those results.

Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?

The four above: Spiritual Gift, Enneagram, StrengthFinders, and Working Genius.

Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?

Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?

Here is our beliefs page: https://www.kingofkings.org/our-beliefs/

The resident should align with these beliefs.

What is your average weekend attendance?

1300 across three campuses.

In general, what is your church demographic?

We reach many different generations but put a focus on reaching out to families with kids.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.

  1. Millard Campus: Broadcast Campus, it’s an old computer factory that’s been redesigned into a church. Tons of space, many meeting rooms, offices. This is where each of the campus teams come on Tuesdays for full days of meetings to align. Worship numbers here are around 750-1000 on a weekend.

  2. Northwest Omaha Campus: Our second campus is located inside of Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha. It features a brand new performing arts center where worship happens as well as a giant gym and classrooms for kids ministry. Worship numbers here are 200-250

  3. Fremont Campus: Our third campus as a result of a merge with a Lutheran Church in Fremont. This is about 30-40 minutes away from our Millard campus. It has a worship center, offices, and a community center with a gymnasium and full kitchen. Worship numbers here are 125-175.

How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)

In the LCMS, we believe that baptism is God doing a miracle in us, not us doing something awesome and God being symbolically represented. Because of this view of baptism, LCMS churches typically don’t see the same number of conversions because for us baptism means something different. Having said that, we celebrated more than 100 baptisms last year. We typically do baptism Sundays quarterly as well as are open to private baptisms should the families need to do this.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group?

40-60% at our three campuses

What is your church known for in the community?

King of Kings is known as one of the most generous churches in the community. It also is well-known for the work that it’s done over the years to serve the community. King of Kings is one of four anchor churches that began a citywide movement called Within Reach, which now has more than 60 churches a part of it with a goal to reach the city for Jesus. It’s one of the best citywide movements in the country and the resident will love the unity of it and what it represents.

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?

As of right now, we are providing $1000/month stipend plus we will provide housing and benefits for the resident.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?

There will likely be 25-30 office hours a week (most staff take Fridays off completely) and another 15-20 hours in evenings, Sunday mornings, etc.

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?

Let’s go! We are going to have a ton of fun together and King of Kings is excited to work with you. We have a young and vibrant team and have many different ages, both genders, and a diverse team to be a part of.
