The following is a Q&A with Family/College Ministry Director, Erich Erdman:

What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?

Our hopes and dreams for the next few years is to continue to reach our community with the gospel of Jesus. It is the first part of our mission statement: Seek those who don’t know Jesus. We want to see those who do know Jesus to grow in Him. And, we want to see people who are willing to be sent by God to carry the same Good News that changed their life into every area they step into. We want to see this next generation of Jesus followers and leaders’ step confidently equipped into what God is calling them next.

Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?

We chose to do a residency because we felt like God was raising up amazing young leaders in our midst, and we wanted to put together a more structured opportunity for them to: 1. Discern the call of ministry in their life. 2. Gain valuable experience and education to equip them for the future. 3. Become a ‘teaching and sending church’, that is equipping and sending leaders out to make a difference for God’s Kingdom

What is it like to work on staff there?

To be on staff at Sunnybrook is to be a part of a fun, fast-paced, and relationally driven team. Things, projects, and titles change often – so you will need to be able to be adaptable. The pace is fast, so you will need to be able to work hard and manage time well. The staff is close and relationships are important – we aren’t just colleagues, but friends and family.

What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?

To ‘win’ on staff at Sunnybrook, one must pursue Jesus relentlessly. One needs to be willing to try new things AND fail. One must be willing to be a part of a team – there are no silos here. One must be willing to speak the hard truth in love. One must be willing to work hard.

Who will the resident report to?  Will there be a different person acting as coach?

The resident will report to whoever the director of the ministry they are being resident in is. The coach will be a different person – Erich Erdman.

Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.

Yes, our main campus. We have a smaller off-site viewing venue called Sunnybrook City Centre. It is in the heart of downtown, and meant to be a place where we are reaching those that live downtown to find community there.

What percentage of people are involved in a small group?

30%

What is your church known for in the community?

We have an initiative at the church called FOR Siouxland – where we want to show our community that we are FOR them, as God is FOR us. We are partners with a local elementary to put on free carnival, clothing drives to help with conferences, and a book vending machine to help with reading initiatives. Street medicine to offer health care to the poor and under resourced in our community. Hope Center is our ‘food pantry’ that allows guests to SHOP, in a way that gives them dignity, allows us to build relationships and share Jesus with them, and pray with them. We have four local partners that we regularly give to and send volunteers to. …

How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident?  Is it set or is it flexible?

We are planning on compensating the resident between $30-35k with a host home option. It is set, but open to conversation around this area.

What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?

The expected work hours would be a full-time 40 hours. A typical work week would be 28-30 hours in actual resident work within their ministry area. 4-5 hours in training/development work. 4-5 hours in 1on1 discipleship and coaching growth.

What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?

If you are looking for a place to have the opportunity to be a part of a ministry that is reaching people with the gospel of Jesus, deeply cares and is involved with their local community, and be challenged to grow in your skills and gifts – residency at Sunnybrook would be a great fit for you!
