Shelter Cove Community Church
Shelter Cove Community Church in Modesto, CA is a welcoming, family-friendly community that’s all about teaching and living by the Bible. They are looking for a Worship Resident to join their team.
Here are some Q & A with Shelter Cove leadership:
What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
Our biggest hope and dream is something that God is already doing through plans to build a larger worship center to accommodate the increasing number of people who are experiencing Jesus for the first time at Shelter Cove. We hope that more people recognize the amazing calling of God on our lives and our church to reach lost people for Him. A big hope and dream would be that everyone who calls Shelter Cove home would be in a community and find their people, and finding new and exciting ways TOGETHER of reaching lost people.
Please give ONE word descriptions of what it’s like to work at your organization?
Fun. Collaborative. Exciting. Joyful. Challenging. Growing.

Please describe the current staff structure and who will this candidate report to?
This resident would report to the Worship Pastor, who reports to the Communications Pastor, who reports to the Lead Pastor.
What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
We are developers over doers. We are problem solvers. We elevate and honor others. We work hard. We laugh together. We are team players. We say the last 10% of truth out of love and a desire to better do what God has called us to.
Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
We are all in on thinking wavelengths.
Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
We are non-denominational.
What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
We hold fast to the saving grace of Jesus Christ through faith alone. While we welcome everyone to come and experience Jesus at Shelter Cove, we are not an affirming church, meaning that we’ll address the activities and behaviors involved in the LGBT world as sin. We’d expect our staff to uphold the same position on God’s word in this area.
What is your average in-person weekend attendance?
2,500
In general, what is your church demographic?
Shelter Cove is the most demographically diverse that it’s ever been, but families with young kids make up a huge part of who we are currently.
Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
We hold 2 service venues on our campus: our main worship auditorium with an additional video venue upstairs in our event center at our busiest service time.
How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
We track baptisms as a greater sign of people having experienced Jesus and taking a next step. Last year we celebrated 388 baptisms.
What percentage of people are involved in a small group or other small community?
We’re running at about 42% of our AWA in community currently, with the goal to achieve 50% by January 2026.
What is your church known for in the community?
For many years Shelter Cove has been known in the community for the events we hold on our campus. From fall festivals to Easter helicopter egg drops, to Christmas light shows, nothing has been off limits as we try everything to reach people for Jesus. We’re also known in our community through the generosity of the people of Shelter Cove. We recently helped fund a homeless shelter for women and children. We often give to our first responder and teaching communities.
How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident? Is it set or is it flexible?
$1,600 monthly + housing.
What does a work week look like for this role? Is there a day off through the week?
This resident position will be full time hours. We normally run a Monday through Thursday work week, with half day Saturdays and Sundays for weekend services.
Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
We’re passionate about equipping young leaders to use their God-given gifts to serve the Kingdom of God through the local church. Our hope is that both Shelter Cove and the residents who join us will grow and be strengthened through this journey. Then, if and when God leads them to their next place of ministry, they’ll be better prepared because of their time in the residency at Shelter Cove.
What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we do take Jesus very seriously, and we'll do whatever it takes to see people meet Him. If that's a vision you can get behind, come and work with us!
