What are your greatest hopes and dreams for the next couple of years for your church?
Build out our vision of Providence Center by expanding our school, increasing the excellence and exposure of our media ministry, beginning vocational and trades training through Providence Hall, establishing Providence Seminary/Church Leadership School.
Why did you choose to do a residency & what are you hopeful will happen through this process?
I want to equip young people to effectively lead local churches as well as establish some process of leadership development for the future of HighPoint Church.
What is it like to work on staff there?
We believe our team is patient and supportive.
Does your church’s website state the mission, vision, values and key distinctives of your church? Please paste the link:
Please describe the current staff structure.
Our staff is led by the vision of the Senior Pastor who is directly accountable to the governing board. The staff is directed in day-to-day operations by the Executive Pastor who is accountable to the Senior Pastor. We currently have staff over Ministry Development (assimilation and group life), Worship, Family Life (Youth and children), Tech and media, as well as operational staff.
What qualities does it take to “win” on staff at your church?
To “win” a staff person needs to bring a positive attitude, be a team player, dream about new ways to reach new people, be a problem solver, and most of all-they have to be a team builder.
Who will the resident report to? Will there be a different person acting as coach?
Our resident will report directly to the Pastor or Director over the area of ministry they primarily work in. All ministerial staff report to our Executive Pastor and to the Senior Pastor. The staff person they report directly to will be their primary coach but there will be times when they will meet with the Executive and Senior Pastor for coaching.
Are there particular assessment tools that you prefer when exploring potential staff people?
No specific assessment tools.
Are you affiliated with a particular denomination or tribes/association of churches? If so, what websites could one investigate to gain further understanding?
We are affiliated with the Church of God, Anderson (jesusisthesubject.org) However, we are very independent, congregationally governed.
What are the key doctrinal and theological issues where alignment is essential?
Inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture. Trinity. Salvation by grace alone through faith alone. Holiness of life as the fruit of salvation. Scriptural understanding of human sexuality and marriage.
What is your average weekend attendance?
1,200 - 1,300
In general, what is your church demographic?
Our church demographic is predominantly Caucasian, with a strong secondary Hispanic presence. The congregation is primarily middle-income and includes a wide range of ages and life stages. Many attendees work in education or own small businesses.
Is there more than one site or venue? If so, please describe.
We meet at one site.
How many conversions has your church had in the past 12 months? (however you define this and whatever you count)
We have baptized 95 in the last 12 months.
What percentage of people are involved in a small group?
I estimate between 55-65%.
What is your church known for in the community?
We are known for engagement in service, for an excellent and growing Christian School, probably the best, contemporary, style worship service in Lake Wales, Celebrate Recovery, and Refuge on the Ridge, and for activating members to engage in local politics.
How much are you planning on financially compensating your resident? Is it set or is it flexible?
Compensation will be fair. We are flexible.
What are the expected work hours and what does a typical workweek look like for this resident?
A typical work week for staff is Monday-Thursday and Sundays. We believe as long as outcomes are being met, there is flexibility in scheduling. Staff members are expected to participate in a few standing commitments, including staff meetings and worship services.
What else would you say to a resident considering joining your team?
If you want to work in an enjoyable atmosphere where you will be encouraged to bring passion and creativity to your role and challenged to make a difference in a community and not just keep members busy-join us.
